About the Event
1. What is the purpose of this fest/event?
This event is to encourage and produce fanwork for the Nordic/Nordic pairings through the use of prompts. The format is quite simple and works under a system where you chose the prompts you want to create fanwork for. The prompts are chosen randomly.
2. What do you mean by "Nordic/Nordic pairings"?
It means pairings that are strictly between the Nordics. Below is a list that you will expect to see during the event:
- SuFin (Sweden/Finland)
- DenNor (Denmark/Norway)
- NorIce (Norway/Iceland)
- DenSu (Denmark/Sweden)
- SuNor (Sweden/Norway)
- DenIce (Denmark/Iceland)
- NorFin (Norway/Finland)
- DenFin (Denmark/Finland)
- FinIce (Finland/Iceland)
- SuIce (Sweden/Iceland)
3. Why just pairings between the Nordics?
Fanwork that focus on Nordic pairings besides SuFin and DenNor are difficult to come by and are often forgotten in the fandom. We thought an event that focused on a simple task such as this would be a lot of fun for people who are fans of these particular pairings or are simply looking for a challenge and want to step out of their usual comfort zone to try something new!
4. If SuFin and DenNor are popular and receive a lot of attention, why include them in this event?
There are multiple reasons behind this:
- This event allows Nyotalia as well as "flipping the pairing" (e.g Instead of doing a piece on SuFin, you can do one of FinSu) which in itself is pretty rare on a romance-level.
- Since your prompts are being chosen at random, you may not even get either of those pairings when you receive your prompt list in July.
- And finally, it just wouldn't be fair to not include them. As much as they are popular, they're still part of the Nordic/Nordic pairing list!
5. What's the timeline for this?
This is the timeline for the fest:
Sign-ups open: June 17th
Last day to sign up: June 30th
All prompts sent by: July 1st/2nd (Date will depend if I can get them out before the Canada Day celebrations)
Posting access opens: July 17th
Last day to post: July 31st August 7th
Any changes will be announced here and on our Tumblr community.
Signing Up
1. I don't have an LJ account. Can I still participate?
Absolutely! Please visit the sign-up page for more info.
2. I want to be anonymous for this event. Can I still participate?
Yes you can! Just send your work to nordicromancefest[@]gmail[.]com when you're finished and we'll do the rest.
3. Can I drop out of the event at anytime?
Yes you can! This event is meant to be fun and stress-free. We understand that things come up suddenly and it may leave with a lack of time to complete your work. If you need/want to drop out, send an e-mail to nordicromancefest[@]gmail[.]com and we'll remove you from the participants list.
The Prompts
1. What characters/pairings will we be assigned?
This is a Nordic/Nordic pairings event so all the Nordics (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland) will be part of this. As for pairings, here's a list below:
- SuFin (Sweden/Finland)
- DenNor (Denmark/Norway)
- NorIce (Norway/Iceland)
- DenSu (Denmark/Sweden)
- SuNor (Sweden/Norway)
- DenIce (Denmark/Iceland)
- NorFin (Norway/Finland)
- DenFin (Denmark/Finland)
- FinIce (Finland/Iceland)
- SuIce (Sweden/Iceland)
2. Why are the prompts randomly assigned?
It is to encourage participants to get creative and try something that they haven't tried before!
3. Is the prompt in the brackets optional?
Yes! Anything in brackets is completely optional. It's a little something extra for those who are looking to challenge themselves!
4. I like the optional prompts better than the ones I got, can I substitute it?
No you may not. The optional prompts stay optional. You either work with the ones you have or you can request a new set if you're struggling with the ones you have.
5. I can't work with the prompts I have. How do/Can I request for a new set of prompts?
If you're having a hard time working with the prompts you have, you can e-mail us at nordicromancefest[@]gmail[.]com to request a new set. However you can only do this once so please think hard about it! Once you get your new set, you can't request for your old set back or get a new one!
The Fanwork
1. What kind of submissions are allowed?
We accept art and writing submissions for this event! You may also do both instead of sticking to one medium!
2. What are the minimum requirements?
Fics must be a least 500 words. For art it is preferred that your work be in colour but B&W is perfectly fine so as long as it's been cleaned up! You must submit at least two prompts out of the four you're given but you are free to do more! You also have the option of combining two of your prompts to create one large 1000 word (min.) submission.
3. Is Nyotalia and/or AUs allowed?
Yes! All of those are allowed for this event! Feel free to get as creative as you want!
4. Is mature work/smut allowed?
Yes that's perfectly fine! Just remember to put proper warnings when you're posting your work.
5. Can I add other characters/pairings in my work?
Yes you can! As long as it stays focused on the pairing from your prompt, feel free to add as many characters and/or pairings you like!
6. How do we post to this community when we're finished?
On July 17th, submissions will be open and you can post it here. If you opted to post anonymously or lack an LJ account, you will need to email your fanwork to the fest email (nordicromancefest[@]gmail[.]com) and we will post it for you.
7. Can we post our work off LJ?
Of course! We want everyone to see the wonderful work you've produced! All we ask is that you post to this community first before you post elsewhere.
Other

Date: 2012-06-20 04:13 am (UTC)Absolutely not! All the pairings are presented equally in this event. When I start doing the prompt lists, everything will be done at random so all pairings will have a fair shot of being on someone's prompt list. There's enough people who signed up for this event so all the pairings will make it to the list at least once. Maybe even twice! It will be by chance if you get the pairings you want!
I hope this helps answer your question! C:

Date: 2012-06-29 03:17 am (UTC)I'm signing up regardless, but I thought I should ask in case any of the prompts beg to be filled one way and another needs to be another ;P

Date: 2012-08-02 03:41 am (UTC)This is a bug; I ran into this problem with Nordipalooza. Basically, if people join as members before posting access is enabled for everyone, then LJ tends to not give them access (even though they should have it). Individuals can fix it by un-joining and then re-joining, but the comm owner can also fix it for everyone in the settings (Communities - Manage - Members - ensure 'posting access' is checked for all).
Figured you'd want a heads up just in case anyone else is having this problem!
